Prepare for your Equine Photo Shoot

Getting your horse ready for his/her photo shoot takes more preparedness than getting ready for a human shoot. Allow yourself several hours just like getting ready for show day.

First, start early and exercise your horse. He/she will need ridden, longed or other form of exercise. He/she needs to be settled and ready to stand but not so tired they won't be alert.

Second, they will need to be bathed and brushed and have their mane and tail braided or banded according to whatever discipline they show in. They need to have their hooves trimmed, and shined, and have fly spray and show sheen applied. Have some treats, grain, carrots

etc ready for the shoot.

They need to have their show tack cleaned and their human showered and groomed for show.

Location prep: Clean out the space where the shoot is to take place. Remove any equipment, hay, tack boxes etc if utilizing a barn space. If outside also remove anything that would clutter up the shoot space.

For their humans: they need to be showered, hair shampooed, make applied and nails done. They need to have their show clothes cleaned and pressed, just like for show.

For any clothes that are not show clothes they also need to be clean and ironed. It is best to dress up for the portraits as this give a more polished look to the image. Please check with the photographer and schedule a style consultation before your shoot.
